Purees vs. baby-led weaning

When it comes to starting solids, most parents find themselves deciding between two main approaches: spoon-feeding purees or baby-led weaning (BLW).   • Take it slow: Move forward in small, manageable steps rather than jumping straight from smooth purees to textured foods. For example, progress from smooth puree to slightly thicker puree, then to soft mashed foods with small lumps, before moving on to finely chopped or finger foods. This gentle approach allows your baby to practice their chewing and swallowing skills without feeling overwhelmed.
  • Model: Babies learn by watching you. Sit together during meals and let your baby see you eating a variety of foods with different textures. Smile and talk about the food in a positive way. When your baby sees you eating and enjoying a textured food, they are more likely to want to try it too.
