Experts recommend introducing solid foods to babies at around 6 months of age, starting with a finely mashed and smooth textures. As your bubba is introduced to new flavours and textures, they may start with only a spoonful at first – but this will increase with time and practice. You can move on to coarsely mashed foods and coarser textures as they pass the different levels of soft food textures. This helps your baby learn how to chew, and chewing helps with speech development and self-feeding. During this stage, it is still advised to continue feeding your baby breast milk or infant formula until they are at least 12 months.
When first starting your baby’s solid food journey at 6 months, consider simple ingredients and flavour combinations in your babies’ meals. Babies’ palates are clean slates, so introducing them to subtle, gentle, and natural flavours is key to successful transitioning. Our organic baby food pouches are created with fruits and oats to produce wholesome and organic flavours for your baby’s first foods, helping to make their transition from breastmilk or formula easier.
Oats are a single-grain food that are gentle on your bub’s digestive system. They help promote fullness and a healthy appetite while preventing gas. Packed with healthy carbohydrates, fibre, and other nutrients, oats are particularly beneficial for building your gut and immune health. They’re also a great source of zinc, which supports your baby’s immune system, taste, and smell.
All our baby purées and smoothies are certified organic. Our fruit and oat baby smoothies for 6+ months are sourced from organic ingredients and free from artificial additives, genetically modified ingredients, and unnecessary salt and sugar.
We only work with certified organic ingredient suppliers and product manufacturers to make our baby snacks for 6+ months.
We will visit and review each and every single one of our suppliers before we agree to partner with them. We meet their team, discuss our requirements, learn from their expertise and take time to form meaningful and lasting relationships to ensure the highest level of quality control of manufacturing processes and facilities.
Starting with purees is the first transition into food textures for babies from 6 months and up. You can choose some that have very thin consistencies like Little Bellies fruit purees for 4+ months and eventually progress on to slightly thicker blends like the fruit and oat smoothies for 6+ months.
Start with 1-2 tablespoons and offer more if they finish. Allow your baby’s hunger and fullness cues to guide you in determining how much to offer. Do not force the spoon into their mouth. This can mean holding the spoon a bit further so your bubba can lean in to take a bite, or you can let them grab the spoon from you and explore the food.
In the beginning, when babies are around 6 months there will be a lot of exploring; your baby may spit out some of the food, squish it and only lick or taste it. This is how they learn to eat! It’s a process that takes time. We recommend you start with one meal in the first month of starting solids and slowly add in more meals at times that work with your schedule. By around 9 months, your baby will probably be eating 3 times a day as you do.
